Autism and ADHD Assessment

A combined assessment explores traits of both autism and ADHD in two separate appointments. I will gather background information regarding your family, early years, physical and mental health, and education and employment. We will also explore your strengths, interests, and preferences to get a true sense of who you are.

Autism appointment: We will discuss in detail your experiences of social relationships, communicating with others, and conversations and interactions. I will also ask about particular interests, behaviours, or routines you may have, as well as understanding whether you have sensory differences (for example, sensitivity to noise, lights etc) that impact you.

ADHD appointment: I will ask about your experiences with maintaining concentration, activity levels and restlessness, as well as any impulsive behaviours such as talking over others or risk taking.

Both: We will discuss any areas of your life that have been impacted by these characteristics and how long they have been present in order to determine if diagnosis is appropriate according to the DSM-5 criteria. The interviews used to guide us are the Autism Clinical Interview for Adults (ACIA) and the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in adults (DIVA-5).

You are welcome to attend alone or with a close friend or family member who can support you and/or contribute.

I carry out assessments in a personalised way to suit each individual. Where required, I will gather additional information and/or seek another professional view.

Please note: If you plan to seek ADHD medication should you receive a diagnosis, it may be more efficient to be assessed by a psychiatrist or nurse prescriber who can offer you that service. As a psychologist, I cannot prescribe medication and whilst it is possible to access  medication following my assessments, NHS services and policies vary.
